In rare cases, you may need to undergo surgery to correct a dislocated shoulder. These are cases when the muscles and ligaments are torn because of dislocation, or when bones are so severely misaligned that they need surgery.
Repeatedly dislocating shoulders can result in chronic shoulder instability. In these cases, some lifestyle modification is often required to prevent further harm, in addition to physical therapy to strengthen structures that support the shoulder joint.
If patients don’t respond to non-surgical treatments, surgery will be required to return the shoulder to its normal function.
