The first step in pricking your finger is to wash your hands with soap and water when at home. Make sure your hands are warm and have your hand pointing down, so the blood can flow to the tips. Pick any finger, using another finger to support it, or lay it on its side so that you can stick the side of the tip, not directly on the tip of the finger. There are many nerve endings in your tips, and this area can be very sensitive. The good news is that the meters today require very little blood. You need to either ask your pharmacist or your physician's office to help you get started.
